As a motoring journalist, I’ve trawled through countless media sites for publicity photos. More often than not, pictures of cars tend to be shiny, flattering and boring. In a world of HDR and CGI, the border between reality and just plain silly tends to thin out.
But then you stumble upon a link to “past models”, “legacy” or “heritage” and a veritable gold mine opens up before your eyes. In the past, the PR machineries were not as anxious as they are today and their pictures could even display a grain of self-distance. And of course, the sense of what was hot and what was not was not the same back then as it is now. Enjoy!
